Alison graduated from Trent Polytechnic with a first class honours degree in interior design, and from Leicester Polytechnic with an MA with distinction. Between 1982 and 1990 Alison worked in London for John Herbert Partnership and jbp Design Group, a part of John Brunton Partnership. In 1990 Alison moved back to the Midlands to join Corstorphine and Wright before starting her own business in April 1995. Alison has taught degree and post graduate Interior Design students at UCE since 1993, and has a Certificate in Education.

Derek graduated from Birmingham Polytechnic with a first class honours degree in interior design. Between 1987 and 1998 Derek worked for Mark Humphries Architects, Geoffrey Reid Associates and the Harrison Design Company, with a period of self-employment. He was also responsible for a competition-winning hotel scheme with M2 Design.
